Early in the pandemic, Green Lake & Wallingford Safe Streets led the community effort to make Green Lake Park a little safer for people walking, rolling, running, and riding around the lake. With SDOT's recent completion of the two-way protected bike lane along the north and east sides of the park and the implementation of the Keep Moving Street along West Green Lake Way, we had the unique opportunity to resolve a major safety concern of traffic crashes along Aurora injuring people in the park by repurposing a bus-only lane that didn't have any buses on it. In doing so, SDOT has created a new route around the lake that is shorter & faster for north-south people on foot and bike and expanded the recreational opportunities of the park.

By celebrating achievements like this, we can build support for more projects like this all across the city.

Community members, SDOT & Parks leaders, an elected leaders will gather at 11 a.m. near the north-end wading pool to talk about the success of the project. A ribbon cutting will be held at 11:20, followed by a bike ride, run, and walk around the lake (counter clockwise).

All people are encouraged to lead your own walks, runs, and rides to the event.
